About Hazel Venzon

Hazel is an award-winning filmmaker and a local storyteller whose live and digital works often circle her back to her Filipina roots. The co-founder of U N I Together Productions, she has explored her interests in digital storytelling through short films and animations - most celebrated for her recent work in Places We Go (2022) - a live graphic animation inspired by the Filipino diaspora. Hazel understands the creation process from many angles and enjoys innovating within any style or form of storytelling, drawing from lived experiences. She carries with her 2 decades of professional experience as an artist, writer, director, producer and performer for live and digital mediums, working in 12 different countries, she has built a career that is both authentic and impactful. Hazel’s champions new voices and her passion for mentorship, collaboration and innovation has made her a vital figure in Manitoba’s arts scene and a powerful advocate for emerging storytellers. She’s thrilled to host a “unit” where the communities’ stories can grow together.
